The town of Patterson is at the Northeast corner of Putnam County, New York. To its East is Connecticut, and going North is Dutchess County. The town is comprised of the hamlet of Patterson and the neighborhood of Putnam Lake.
People live in Patterson to enjoy expansive land and country living. There are residents that live year round, and some spend their summers there, around the beautiful Putnam Lake.
There is a supermarket and some stores in at Patterson Commons. But for more shopping or maybe a movie, you will have to travel to Carmel or 20 miles away in Danbury Connecticut.
Like the rest of Putnam County, lots of outdoor opportunities are in Patterson. The Veterans Memorial Park in the center of town is popular, especially in the summer, with a small swimming pond. The town is home to the Great Swamp, a 3300 acre watershed from the Croton Reservoir where many species of birds and animals live. For hiking and cross country skiing, there is the Cranberry Mountain Preserve and the 850-acre Water G. Marritt Park.
There is the Thunder Ridge Ski area conveniently right in town. In the summer, the area is turned into a paintball field.
Pawling in Dutchess County is just to its North, by traveling a few minutes on Route 22, and Brewster is to its South. More shopping and businesses are in Danbury Connecticut, which is around 25 minutes away. Driving to New York City is via 84 and 684, and takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes and 65 miles.
There is a Metro North Patterson train station in town on the Harlem line. The trip takes 1 hour and 45 minutes, but the train does not run frequently, at only every 2 hours during off peak.
Most of the students in Kent go to the Carmel Central School District schools. The Carmel School District also serves parts of Kent, Putnam Valley, Patterson, Southeast, and East Fishkill.
