The Town of Haverstraw includes the Villages of Haverstraw, West Haverstraw, part of the Village of Pomona, and the hamlets of Thiells and Garnerville. The town covers the an area spanning from the East end to the West of Rockland County, New York. It has a beautiful setting, bordering the Hudson River, and High Tor Mountain, the tallest peak in the Palisades.
Haverstraw was once the brick making capital of the world. Most of the late 19th to early 20th century buildings in New York City were built with bricks made in Haverstraw. After the closing of the factories in the mid 1900s, the villages have attracted Hispanic immigrants. Nowadays, the Hispanic influences in the villages are apparent, with festive Puerto Rican Day and Dominican Republic Day and parades being held each year.
For recreation, Bowline Point Park has a large Olympic size swimming pool, tennis court, volleyball courts, picnic areas, and a fishing pier along the Hudson River. Several other parks in town offer sports fields and jogging/hiking paths. There is a public 18-hole golf course, the Phillip J Rotella Golf Course.
Around 39.5% of the properties in Haverstraw are detached single family homes, with another 16.3% being attached single family homes. There is a large selection of newer condos and townhouse developments in Haverstraw, some along the waterfront.

Haverstraw is located approximately 30 miles North of New York City, and the drive without traffic is around an hour. The drive to Tarrytown, across the Tappan Zee Bridge, is 15 miles and takes around 30 minutes.
For public transportation, there is a New York water ferry that departs Haverstraw and crosses the river to Ossining in Westchester, which then connects to the Metro North Hudson Line. There are also buses to Port Authority in New York and buses that connect to the Metro North across the river.
