Suffern is a village located in the town of Ramapo in Rockland County, along the New Jersey border. It is an attractive suburb for its convenient location to North Jersey and New York City, good schools, and housing prices relatively lower than that of Northern Jersey, and of Westchester County across the river.
Suffern has a walkable downtown. Many of the residents enjoy shopping and dining along Lafayette Ave, and the fact that the train station is also walkable. The Lafayette Theater, an iconic theater built over 80 years ago, is a downtown staple that shows first run movies along with some special features.
There are lots of outdoor options around Suffern. The Bear Mountain State Park and Harriman State Park offer fishing, hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and an outdoor ice-skating rink. Other parks nearby include the Ramapo River Reserve and the Ramapo Mountain.

Suffern is located right on the border of Northern New Jersey, just to the North of Mahwah NJ. It is around 32 miles North of New York City, and takes approximately 50 minutes drive time without traffic.
There are several public transportation options. There are buses that you can take to go to Port Authority. There are also trains that you can take to Hoboken or Secaucus, where then you can take the subway or the ferry over to Manhattan.

The Lafayette Theater, located on 97 Lafayette Ave, was built in 1924. It was renovated in 1927 and have a renovated 1931 Wurlitzer pipe organ installed in the theater. It is a first run movie theater with one screen, and also have special screenings.

For outdoor activities, residents can see the Ramapo Mountains just from their backyards. They can enjoy hiking there and the nearby Ramapo River Reserve just across state border. The Bear Mountain State park and Harriman State park offers additional outdoor opportunities.
Within the village, the Spook Rock Pool is a popular place to cool off in the summer. Community programs are offered through the Clark Recreation Center and the Suffern Senior Center. For golf lovers, the beautiful Spook Rock Golf Course is a public course in town.
