Kids and “Big Kids” (adults) alike are counting down to the opening day at Playland. When is it? We’re glad you asked! It’s Saturday, May 9th, coming up sooner than you think!
Westchester’s most popular amusement park began in May of 1928, just about 90 years ago. It is still full of fun family entertainment, guaranteed to bring a smile to the young and the young at heart as well.
Some of the classic family rides here have been here for decades, including the beautiful Grand Carousel, full of horses and lovely music. The House of Mirrors and Bumper Cars are also rides that parents likely remember from their own childhood and now take their own children to enjoy.
If you have tiny tots, don’t miss a visit to the Kiddyland rides. Note the minimum and maximum height restriction for safety for your child and for everyone on the rides. The Boat Ride is a classic ride that many children have enjoyed in Westchester. The more adventurous may want to try the Mini Scrambler, a fun ride that spins and turns. The Kiddy Coaster is also a fun choice to enjoy the day.
Adults won’t want to miss the Thrill Rides, which include the newly adapted Dragon Coaster that has a dragon who actually breathes fire. The Whip is another fun thrill ride. If heights don’t intimidate, try the Playland Yo-Yo.
Playland is also well-known for its entertainment and shows. Live fireworks during the summer are held weekly, on the weekdays as well as the weekends. Artists who have performed at Playland include Rick Springfield, Joan Jett and Cyndi Lauper. There is also live entertainment that walks through the amusement park, to entertain the children.
May will soon be here. Now is the time to get your Playland season pass so you won’t miss out on all the fun. If you purchase a Season Pass by April 30, 2015, you will receive one free admission to bring a friend during the 2015 season. The 2015 Season Pass is $95 per person, or $80 for Westchester residents.
