The town of Wappinger is located in Dutchess County along the Hudson River. The Village of Wappingers Falls, named after the local waterfalls at Wappinger Creek, is located partly in Wappinger, and partly in the town of Poughkeepsie.
Wappinger is suburban, and is rather convenient for Dutchess County. Major shopping and dining options located in town are along Route 9, where there is a BJs, Walmart, Home Depot, Hannafords and Adams Market, among other large stores.
The downtown area of Village of Wappingers Falls is a registered historic area. West Main Street is lined with three-story buildings dating to the years after the Civil War. The Grinnell library on Main Street is the sixth oldest library in New York State. The community theater group County Players performs at the Falls Theater, which is also on Main Street.
Bowdoin Park is a picturesque 301 acre park located on the banks of the Hudson River. The park offers scenic views, open areas for picnicking, and an award-winning handicapped-accessible playground area and a new water spray park.
Wappinger Commute
The major local road in Wappinger is Route 9. I-84 and the Taconic Parkway can be accessed within minutes from Wappinger.
The Metro North station in town is the New Hamburg station. Travelling from New Hamburg Station to Grand Central Station in New York City takes around 1 hour and 36 minutes. Driving distance is around 75 miles, and also takes around an hour and a half.
