The Town of Woodbury is located in Southeastern Orange County. It includes the Village of Woodbury, and the hamlets of Highland Mills and Central Valley.
Like most of Orange County, it was a farming neighborhood until the mid 20th Century. Attracted to the lakes and mountains of Orange County, Woodbury became a popular summer resort for New York City residents. Starting in the 1950s, with the completion of the New York State Thruway, more and more residents started to live in Woodbury full time. Nowadays, Woodbury provides a small town setting and suburban conveniences, with New York City being close enough for a daily commute.
What Woodbury may be best known for is the Woodbury Premium Outlets. Its popularity is not limited to New York and Jersey residents. Bus loads of tourists from even Europe and Asia come all the way here to shop. In addition to the outlets, there are supermarkets and big box stores right around town, making it a convenient town to live in.
In the summer, two parks offer swimming: the Central Valley Pool and Park with a great pool, and the swimming area and sandy beach at the Earl Reservoir at Highland Mills. Both parks also have sport fields, and there is a roller hockey rink at the Earl Reservoir.
You can hike and camp at the nearby Schunemunk State Park, Harriman State Park, or Bear Mountain. In fact,there are so many great trails and activities basically right in town, it may be overwhelming for outdoor and photography enthusiasts to decide where to go each day, right in his/her backyard.

Woodbury NY Commute
Woodbury is can be accessed by Interstate 87, which connects Woodbury to Albany to the North, and New Jersey to the South. NY 17, the local NY-32 and US Route 6 also passes through town. Traveling East, West Point and the Hudson River is approximately 20 minutes away.
Commuting to New York City from Woodbury is around 50 miles, and takes around an hour and 15 minutes, and of course, highly depends on traffic conditions. The Metro-North Harriman train station has trains that connect to Penn Station in New York City. Some people who do the daily commute like to take the Coach bus that arrives at Port Authority.
