Southold is one of ten towns in Suffolk County, Long Island and is located at the Northeastern tip of the island, at the North Fork. The town also includes Fishers Island, which is actually closer to the Connecticut coast than New York. According to the 2010 census, the population was 21,968.
There are some coastal fish and wildlife habitats within the Town of Southold, including the Mattituck Inlet Wetlands and Beaches, Fishers Island Beaches, Pine Islands and Shallows, the Goldsmith Inlet and Beach, Pipes Cove Creek and Moores Drain, the Dumpling Islands and Flat Hammock.
