West Islip is a waterfront town with the town of Babylon to its East. The Sunrise Highway dissects the town; the homes in Southern part is along the Great South Bay and many are located along the water, and the Northern part is inland, and the home prices may be lower.
West Islip is a convenient suburb with plenty of shopping and dining around, and most are along Montauk Highway, Union Blvd and Sunrise Highway. For major shopping, within 10 minutes drive you will find the Sunrise Mall in East Massapequa, South Shore Mall in Bay Shore, and Tanger Outlets in Deer Park.
Many water lovers will enjoy the West Islip lifestyle. There are plenty of waterfront homes with direct water access to the shore and canals. There are also town boat slips available at the town of Islip's beach and marina. For direct access to ocean beaches and fishing, you can also drive quickly to Robert Moses Start Park via the Robert Moses Causeway. Locally, the Casamento Park has a playground, ball fields, and a town swimming pool.
There is no train station within West Islip. The closest LIRR station is a few minutes to East at Babylon Village, and the train ride is a little over one hour on average to midtown Manhattan. Driving wise, West Islip is approximately 38 miles from the city via the Southern State Parkway, or just a little over one hour. Most of the traffic to other towns on Long Island are through the Southern State Parkway and Sunrise Highway.
