New City NY is located at the heart of Clarkstown, and the heart of Rockland County. It serves as both the town seat of Clarkstown, and the county seat of Rockland County.

The downtown area of New City attracts many workers and visitors every day. There has been some revitalization efforts going on in the downtown area to make it more attractive as a center of shopping and entertainment. However, the downtown area is a combination of strip malls, which makes it hard to build up nightlife or a charming vibe.

With the quaint riverfront villages of Nyack and Piermont competing for dining and entertainment, and the large Palisades Mall competing for shopping, New City is a harder sell as a vibrant district. Both Nyack and the Palisades Mall are only a few minutes drive away.

However, New City NY is considered a desirable place to live, and Clarkstown is often ranked as one of the best places to live in the US. Most people live in New City because it is a peaceful, affluent suburb. The schools are highly regarded, and there are many recreation options in the area. Most of the homes in New City are well maintained, with several neighborhoods with luxury homes over $1 million. New City is home to a number of parks and trails, and driving around town you will often get beautiful lake views.

New City Commute and Transportation

New City is located around 32 miles North of New York City, West of Congers, and North of Nanuet. To travel to New York City, you can cross the Hudson River on the Tappan Zee Bridge, or the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey. Without traffic, the drive would take as little as 50 minutes.

• New City Sushi - 22 S. Main Street, the highest rated mom-and-pop Japanese restaurant in New City
• Veggie Heaven - 195 S. Main Street, a Chinese vegetarian restaurant
• Bombay Grill - 261 S. Little Tor Road, an Indian restaurant with a full menu and lunch/dinner buffets
• David's Bagel - 64 N. Main Street, Offering bagels, sandwiches, and fresh soups since 1988
• Sazone House of Tapas - 191 S. Main Street 

New City Recreation

There are a lot of parks and recreation options for New City residents. They include the following:

• Zukor Park / Kennedy Dells County Park - There are sports fields and playgrounds at this park. There is also a 3.3 mile walking trail. While on the trail, at the Western border you will find the scenic Crum Creek and a waterfalls. Dogs are allowed on the trail on leash, or you can bring your dogs to the Kennedy-Dells dog park and let them run off leash.
• Demarest Kill County Park - a 30-acre park that is heavily wooded. You will find a pond and waterfall if you hike through the park.
• Deforest Lake/Reservoir - The Eastern border of New City is the Deforest Lake, which is very scenic. It is a popular spot for shore fishing.
• Paramount Country Club - a private country club with golf, tennis, and swimming
• Bow Tie Cinema - 202 S. Main Street  Showings of first run and independent films
• New City Bowl and Batting Cages - 90 N. Main Street
• Dutch Garden - a historic garden that has been restored, located next to the Rockland County Court House. See video below
