North Hempstead NY Real Estate
North Hempstead is one of three towns in Nassau County, Long Island, along with Hempstead and Oyster Bay. The Town of North Hempstead is located in the Northwestern portion of Nassau County, just 14.5 miles from Manhattan. There are 30 incorporated villages within the Town of North Hempstead, and also 20 hamlets.
Residents can easily commute to New York City via Long Island Rail Road, by bus, and 495/ Northern State Parkway passes East to West through the town.
According to the 2010 census, the population of North Hempstead is 226,322. The estimated median household income of the town is $111,570 according to the 2017 census data.
The west town line is the border of Queens, and the North town line is Long Island Sound. North Hempstead became affluent after the opening of the Long Island Rail Road through Great Neck, and the inauguration of steamboat service from Manhattan in 1836. It is the setting of the great estates in The Great Gatsby, and some of those homes like the Sands Point Preserve in Port Washington are still standing and open to public.
There are many top notch public schools in North Hempstead. Shopping is very convenient in town, with the famous Miracle Mile Shopping in Manhasset providing many luxury retailers.
