Parks in Beacon NY

Mount Beacon -

235 acres. Located at Route 9D to intersection of Howland and Wolcott Ave 

It is a rather steep hike beginning on a staircase following the course of the Beacon Incline Railway, which was one of the Hudson Valley's prime tourist attractions in the early 20th century. When you make it up top, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view extending all the way from Manhattan to Albany on a clear day.

Long Dock Park

Along the Beacon waterfront and walkable from the Beacon Train Station, you will find Long Dock Park, which offers hiking/biking trails, bird watching/nature study, dog walking (on leash), fishing, kayak and canoe launch and rentals, and picniking. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing possible in the winter.Mount Gulian Gardens - 145 Sterling St

Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park -

10 acres, at Red Flynn Drive near Beacon Train Station

Along the Hudson River, there are many festivals held at the Riverfront Park when the weather is warm. It is also the home of the Beacon Sloop Club

East Fishkill Parks

East Fishkill Recreation Park

a 60-acre park at Route 376 and Route 82

  • 6 baseball/softball fields
  • 3 lighted tennis courts
  • 6 lighted basketball courts
  • 2 lighted volleyball courts
  • 1 lighted roller hockey rink
  • an all purpose field for football, lacrosse, etc
  • 1 skateboard park
  • 2 concession stands
  • 2 "Water Misters" at the playground

  • a lighted ice skating pond for fishing in the summer

Red Wing Park

17-acres park at 11 Old Farm Road off Route 82

The park only opens in the summer and charges a fee. There is an 8-acre lake and beach with swim lanes, and the facility includes a bath house with restrooms and showers. There is also a first aid office, concession stand, basketball, volleyball, badminton, playground, and picnic areas.

Fishkill Parks

Fishkill Ridge

The 11.5 miles of trails at Fishkill Ridge are strenuous. The park offers hiking, picnicking, cross country skiing and showshoeing in the winter.

Town of Fishkill Parks:

Maurer Geering Park at the intersection of Route 52 and I-84

4 tennis courts, 2 lit basketball courts, 1 Little League field, 1 Senior League Field, covered pavilion and bathrooms, playground

Shepheard Memorial Park on Route 82 next to the Brinkerhoff Elementary School

1 baseball field, 1 softball field, 2 Little League fields, bathrooms and concession stands

Doug Phillips Park on Route 52 east of the Route 82 interchange

Natural trails, 2 softball fields, 3 tennis courts, 1 basketball court, playground, bathroom and picnicking. The friendly Paws Dog Park is also there.

Dutchess Junction Park on Route 9D South of Beacon

nature trail, picnicking, and playground

Jean Van Pelt Park on Washington Ave

Passive recreation, stream-side nature trail, picnicking, playground, and creek for fishing

Dutchess Lake Park on West View Drive

Passive recreation, tot-lot with swings, and a pond for fishing

Lagrange Parks

James Baird State Park

The large James Baird State Park is located in Lagrange and Pleasant Valley. The 590 acre park includes the James Baird State park Golf Course, an 18-hole golf course. The park also has several picnic areas and pavilions which can accommodate up to 300 people by reservation, sports facilities for basketball, softball, tennis, and volleyball. There are also trails for hiking.

Poughkeepsie Parks

Walkway Over the Hudson 

The Walkway spans across the Hudson River, connecting Poughkeepsie and Dutchess County to Highland and Ulster County. The walkway is 212 feet tall and 1.28 miles long, and is the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. 

Victor C. Waryas Park 

Located at the end of Main Street in Poughkeepsie along the Hudson River, the park has picnic tables, outdoor grills, playground, skate park, boat launch and dock. A restaurant and the mid-Hudson Children's Museum is also at the park.

Quiet Cove Waterfront Park

a 27-acre park in the Town of Poughkeepsie, North of Marist College and offers river views and picnicking.

Rockingham Park - 99 Soccerfield Drive, Wappingers Falls

Soccer fields. Fishing at the Fisherman's Walk on Sprout Creek. Ice skating and ice hockey when Sprout Creek freezes in the winter.

Schlathaus Park - 126 All Angels Hill Rd, Wappingers Falls

The following events are held at Schlathaus Park for the town of Wappingers:

Northwestern Dutchess County Parks:

Town of Clinton Parks

Frances J. Mark Memorial Park (AKA Rec Park) – 337 Clinton Hollow Rd

Pavilion with kitchen, grills, playground, baseball field, soccer, horseshoes, volleyball, swimming pond. No swimming unless life guard is on  duty. The park closes at dusk.
To use the swimming facilities, a town ID sticker is required. 

Friends Park – 2350 Salt Point Turnpike- County Route 115.

Baseball field, small pavilion area, tennis courts, soccer, basketball, playground.  The park closes at dusk.

Parks in the Town of Hyde Park

Winnakee Nature Preserve - on Van Dam Road

104 acres nature preserve with extensive hiking trails

Mills-Norrie State Park

At over 1000 acres along the Hudson River, the park has varies trails that are ideal for walking, hiking, cycling, cross country skiing, and shoe shoeing. There are cabins and camping sites available, and river access.

Town Parks of Hyde Park

Hackett Hill Park - East Market Street between Rte. 9 & 9G

The facilities include: swimming pool, pavilion, hiking trails, camp sites for groups, sports fields, program building, Hackett House. This is where the day camp is located.

Pinewoods Park - Pinewoods Road off Rte. 9G

Park includes a skatepark, playground, tennis courts, basketball court, ball field, fishing and nature trail around the property. There is no fee to use the skate park. Helmets are required to enter the skatepark.

Wilcox Memorial Park

The 615-acre park formerly the estate and farm of Mrs. Frederick P. Wilcox before it was donated to the town. The park offers two lakes and a sandy beach and boating. Swimming is allowed. There are also playgrounds and sports fields, 5+ miles of hiking trails, mini golf and camping.

Taconic-Hereford Multiple Use Area

The largest outdoor area in Dutchess County at 917 acres. Available for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowmobile and cross country skiing. Hunting and camping are allowed. 

Town of Red Hook Parks

Poets' Walk Romantic Landscape Park - River Road

The Poets' Walk along the Hudson River offers a very scenic 2-mile long trail through woods and rolling meadows with cedar pavilion, footbridges, and benches. In total the park is 120 acres in size.

Town of Rhinebeck Parks

Burger Hill Park - West Side of Route 9G between Kerr Road and Violet Hill Road

76 acres. Enjoy this lovely hilltop park for picnicking and hiking, and popular for sledding in the winter. It rises to a 550-foot hilltop boasting panoramic vistas of the Hudson River Valley including the Shawangunk Ridge, Catskill and Taconic Mountains, Stissing Mountain and the Berkshires.

Ferncliff Forest - Route Rutsen Road

Facilities for hiking, fishing, biking, camping, etc. There are several observation towers throughout.

Rhinebeck Rec Park - 

Playgrounds, gazebo and picnic tables, and pool
