Nanuet is a hamlet located in Clarkstown. It is a pleasant suburb that has good schools, convenient access to transportation, shopping and the outdoors. It is perhaps the shopping hub of Rockland County. The Palisades Mall, one of the largest mall in the country, is in Nanuet. It has lots of shopping and dining options, a Dave and Busters, and a movie theater.

Nanuet is more than just shopping though. Nanuet Lake Park, with a pool that is designed to look like a lake, is a popular spot for the summer. The park offers picnicking, sports fields, and swimming. There are also two other pools and many other parks in the town of Clarkstown.

Due to its relatively inexpensive housing compared to other comparable towns in North Jersey and Westchester, and lots of recreation opportunities, CNN Money ranked Nanuet 76 on its annual 100 Best Places to Live list in 2011. Nanuet was also ranked 24th on CNN Money's annual 100 Best Places to Live list in 2007.

Some of the newer and larger homes in Nanuet are close to the "Briarwoods" Development on the West side of Nanuet, which was built in the late 1990s. The homes for sale in Briarwood are among the most expensive in Nanuet, usually selling from mid $600,000s and up, with homes 2700 square feet up to 4000 square feet.

• Tudor Hill Condonimuiums, a small and affordable condo community in Nanuet, built in the early 1980s. Most of the condos are selling under $200,000s. 
• Town Hill Condominiums, a garden style condo development that was built in 1980s. As of 2015, the condos are selling in the low $100,000s.
• New Holland Village Condos, garden apartments built in several phases in the 1970s. They are either 1 or 2 bedroom condos on one floor. As of 2015, the condos for sale at New Holland Village are selling under $200,000.
• Normandy Village Condos, garden apartments built in several phases in the 1960s. A newer phase of the complex is only for rentals. The condo complex amenities include a community pool and club house. The homes sell for under $200,000. 
• Conklin Park Condos and Townhouses, which include 2 bedroom condos, and 2 bedroom multi-level townhomes. The complex was built in 1998.
• Sussex at Bremmer Townhouses, built around 1985. As of 2015, the condos for sale at Sussex at Bremmer are selling around $200,000.
• Sussex at Gramercy Condos, 1 or 2 bedroom condos on one floor. As of 2015, the condos for sale at Sussex at Gramercy are selling around $200,000.
• Omni Park Condos, built in 1986 and 1987.  There are one level and two level condominiums and townhouses, ranges from 1049 square feet to 1749 square feet.  
• The Hamlets, a popular and desirable development in Nanuet. The Hamlets community amenities include swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, and more. Pets are allowed at the Hamlets, and the sales price ranges from the low $200,000s to $400,000.There are five communities within the Hamlets, including:
• Treetops, townhomes built in the late 1970s
• Knolls East, townhomes built in the late 1980s
• Timberline, mostly 1 bedroom townhomes built in the late 1980s
• Vista at Kings Gate, condos built in the late 1980s
• Eagle Ridge, townhomes built in the early 1990s
• Amber Fields, built around 1997, with a total of 240 units. There are 2-3 bedroom units, with sizes ranging from 2000-2700 square feet, selling for $280,000 - $400,000.
• Versailles, newer townhomes in Nanuet built around 1999. It is located next to Amber Fields, and across the street from the Hamlets. The homes at Versailles in Nanuet are selling between $350,000 -$400,000.

Nanuet Commute

Nanuet is located around 30 miles North of New York City, and just 2 mile North of New Jersey. To travel to New York City, the drive would take as little as 45 minutes without traffic.

Nanuet may be the transportation hub in Rockland County. Major roadways like I-87 and the Palisades Interstate Parkway have entrances throughout Nanuet, and the local Route 59 is the major road that cuts through town, and most stores you ever need are along Route 59.

For commuters, there are Coach commuter buses that leave from the Palisades Mall to Port Authority. There are many Coach commuter bus stops. Some developments have a bus stop right outside, conveniently allowing residents to commute without worrying about parking.

Nanuet NY Shopping and Dining

Nanuet is a major shopping destination for Rockland County. Almost every chain store that you can think of, you can find in Nanuet.

Most of the shopping centers are along Route 59. That includes:

• The Palisades Center, one of the largest shopping malls in the country. It is actually just East of the Nanuet border. Anchored by Lord and Taylor and Macy's, you will find everything in that mall in addition to shopping: bowling, movie theater, comedy club, ice skating, Dave and Buster's. Some of the restaurants in the Palisades Center include the Cheesecake Factory, Joe's Crab Shack, Buffalo Wild Wings, and more.
• The Shops at Nanuet, which has been updated recently and now includes beautiful outdoor shopping and dining, a movie theater, and gym. The stores there includes the Fairway Supermarket, an Apple store, and restaurants like the Bonefish Grill, BJ's Brewery and Zinburger.
• There are other shopping centers all along Route 59. You will find stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, TJ Maxx, etc. Further West on Route 59 into Spring Valley, you will find smaller shopping plazas with a variety of ethnic restaurants and shops. 

The Shops at Nanuet

• The Rockland Bakery has its roots at this Nanuet location. This is the actual factory location, where you can look at how everything is made, and pick bread right out of the oven.
• Growler & Gill Craft Beer Bar - popular place for you to taste different craft beer
• Ambulance Brew House - another popular bar with many craft beer choices and good food
• Jacqueline's Wine on Main - a wine and tapas bar in the heart of Nanuet with great reviews
• Matio's Pizza - Every town has its local favorite pizza joint, and this is it. Known for the brick oven pizza. 

Nanuet NY Parks and Recreation

The town park for Nanuet is the Lake Nanuet Park, which has a lake for swimming with water slides, basketball courts, ball fields, and picnic areas. 

For those looking for additional outdoor activities, there are numerous hiking and biking opportunities just a short drive away at Bear Mountain and the Palisades Parks. The Hudson River is only 15 minutes drive away for those enjoy being on the water, and there are fishing locations even closer.
