Amityville is one of the most beautiful villages on Long Island, lying on the South Shore, between Massapequa in Nassau County to the West, and Copiague to the East. However, the village may be best known for the 1974 murder in town, and putting the "Amityville Horror" house on the map.
Amityville is great for water lovers, there are plenty of canals around town, and there is a free beach in the village. There are several private yacht clubs for those who enjoy boating. There are several parks in town, including the James A. Caples Memorial Park, next to the beach.
The village of Amityville evokes a "small town feel", with a downtown gazebo, clock tower, and shops along Broadway and Merrick Road. There are two places with where you can watch live performances, including the Amityville Music Hall on Broadway, and the Revolution Bar and Music Hall on Merrick Road.
There is a LIRR station in Amityville in the village, and the ride to New York Penn Station is approximately one hour. The drive to midtown Manhattan is approximately 33 miles. To get to other towns, the Southern State Parkway and Sunrise Highway make Amityville convenient for commuters.
There is a variety of choices of homes in Amityville. Most homes are single family homes, but there are also townhouses, condos, coops, and rental apartments. Many people are attracted to Amityville and the beautiful old Victorian homes in the village.
