Briarcliff Manor is a village along the Hudson River in mid Westchester County, New York. Most of the village belongs to the town of Mount Pleasant, while the other part is within the town of Ossining. Briarcliff Manor includes the hamlets of Scarborough and Chilmark.
There is a charming downtown area in Briarcliff Manor along State and Pleasantville Road that consists of several local restaurants and shops, and Mrs. Green grocery store. For shopping centers, there is one with and A&P supermarket. For more choices in shopping and dining, Ossining, Tarrytown, Pleasantville and Chappaqua are within a 10 minute drive.
The Briarcliff Manor Recreation Center is very active and provides year long programs to residents. For a small village, there is 180 acres of parkland. The Law Memorial Park has a great outdoor pool and tennis courts and sports fields, and in the winter, an ice skating rink.
Golf is pretty big in the village, and it must be great for golfers to live so close to the two attractive golf courses here: Sleepy Hollow and Trump International golf course.
A section of Scarborough is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the Scarborough Historic District. The 376-acre historic district is sparsely developed, and mostly comprised of three estates, a school complex, a cemetery, and two religious properties.
Briarcliff Manor Commute
The Metro North has a train station in town, the Scarborough Station. An express train to Grand Central Station during peak time takes around 45 minutes.
Driving to Manhattan takes closer to one hour, depending on traffic. The Taconic State Parkway passes through the village and connects to the rest of the County and New York City. Locally, most traffic passes through Route 9, 9A, or Route 100.
Briarcliff Manor Schools
Students who live in Briarcliff Manor either go to the Briarcliff Manor School District, or the Ossining School District. There is a larger hispanic population and English as a second language group of students in Ossining, which leads to its lower test scores than that of Briarcliff Manor. Some families, however, may prefer Ossining for its diversity.
