Valhalla NY Real Estate

Valhalla is a hamlet located within the town of Mount Pleasant, just North of White Plains. Valhalla is named after mythical heaven of slain warriors in Norse culture. 

There is a small downtown in Valhalla, across from the train station. It consists of a block of shops and restaurants, including the popular Village Creamery & Sweet Shop, the Mughal Palace Indian Restaurant, and the Valhalla Crossing Restaurant.

The popular Kensico Reservoir is one of the primary water source for New York City. The 98-acre Kensico Dam Plaza Park provides hiking and bike trails, playground and picnic areas. During the summer, there are almost weekly events held at the park including concerts, movie nights, arts and crafts fairs, and a July 4th fireworks display. 

Other landmarks that you will not miss are large and historical cemeteries in Valhalla. The Kensico Cemetery and the Gate of Heaven cemetery are well known. Famous people like Yankees star Lou Gehrig, composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, and author Ayn Rand are buried there. 

This small hamlet is home to the Westchester Medical Center, one of the larger hospitals in Westchester County. It includes the Blythedale Children's Hospital, New York State's only independent, specialty children's hospital.

Valhalla Commute

Valhalla is approximately 30 miles from Midtown Manhattan. The local Valhalla Metro North station is in the Downtown area, and it is a roughly 40 minute ride to Grand Central Station.  

Valhalla is in a central location with the Taconic State Parkway running through it, and easy access to the Bronx River Parkway, Sprain Brook Parkway, and 287. White Plains is a short 10 minute drive South from Valhalla. 

Valhalla Schools

Students in Valhalla either go to the Valhalla School District, or the Mount Pleasant School District.

The main campus of Westchester Community College is located on 218 acres in Valhalla. It is convenient for students and also for any adults looking to take courses for work or for a hobby.

Valhalla Real Estate

82% of the homes in Valhalla are detached single family homes. 25.9% of the homes were built before 1940. Most of the homes were built between 1950 - 1960, with 34.1% of the homes being built then. You will find the popular raised ranch, cape cods, and split level style of homes from that period. Many of the homes are smaller and provide more choices for first time homebuyers.

77.2% of the homes are owner occupied, and 22.8% are being rented.
