The community is also walking distance to the amenities on Route 6, including the Mahopac Library, several restaurants and shops, and bus stop. You can walk to the scenic 12-mile long Putnam County Trailways for jogging and biking. There are nine parks in Mahopac and the town of Carmel, with lakes, picnic areas, skate park, dog parks, lots of hiking and outdoor opportunities. Golf lovers can play at the public 18-hole Putnam Golf Club, the 27-hole Centennial Golf Club, or the private Mahopac Golf Club.

For shopping, there are local strip malls and restaurants, gyms, and a movie theater along Route 6. Just across the county border on Route 6 in Westchester, the Jefferson Valley Mall is 10 minutes away with more stores and a movie theater.

Mahopac is located just North of the Westchester County border. There is no Metro North station in Mahopac. However, the Goldens Bridge and Croton Falls Metro North train stations are around 10 minutes away. 

Travelling in Mahopac is mostly through Route 6, and many local shops, restaurants and schools are located along this local road. To go to other parts of New York and Connecticut, you will take I-84 and the Taconic State Parkway. New York City is around 50-60 miles from Lake Mahopac, and White Plains is around 30 minutes South.
