Bedford NY Real Estate

The town of Bedford is located in the Northern part of Westchester County, New York. There are three hamlets in Bedford: Bedford Hills, Bedford Village, and Katonah.

Bedford is an upscale town for those who enjoy the country, but still want to live close to the city. Driving through the town, you will find beautiful horse farms, large colonial homes and country estates. This rural town has become well known due to a few famous residents, including Catherine Zeta Jones, Richard Gere, Martha Stewart and Ralph Lauren. 

Each of the hamlet have a small downtown area with shops and restaurants. The business center at Katonah is by far the largest. There is a metro North station in Bedford Hills and Katonah.

Each of the three hamlets in Bedford has its own active and beautifully maintained park: the Bedford Hills Memorial Park, Bedford Village Memorial Park, and Katonah Memorial Park. Each park has its own swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, sports fields, walking trails, playground and picnic areas. 

The Bedford area is a horse lover’s paradise. The Bedford Riding Lanes Association offers members the use of over 200 miles of riding trails.  The trails offer beautiful views of the countryside through forests and open fields, through the Jay Homestead and into the Pound Ridge Ward Reservation.

At Bedford Village, at the corner of Hook Road and the old Bedford Road, you will see the 'Bedford Oak', a tree estimated to be over 500 years old and is a symbol of the town. 

Bedford Commute

There is a Metro North station in Bedford Hills and Katonah. The train ride to Grand Central Station is on the Harlem Line and takes around 65 minutes for the express train. Visit our commute guide for more details.

Driving-wise, you may be driving on small country roads around town. To drive to New York City, around 47 miles South, you will need to take I-684 and Sprain Brook Parkway. The drive is approximately 70 minutes, depending on traffic.

Bedford Schools

The town of Bedford is served by two school districts. The Southern part of town, including Bedford Village and Bedford Hills, belongs to the Bedford school district. The Northern part of town, including Katonah, belongs to the Katonah-Lewisboro school district.

There are also two private schools in town: the Rippowam-Cisqua school for K-9, and the Harvey School, which is a boarding and a day school. The Harvey School provides education for 6th-12th grades.

Bedford Real Estate 

There is a total of 6,274 housing units in Bedford. Around 75.6% of the housing are detached single family homes. Approximately 75.1% of the homes are owner-occupied.

In 2014, there were 174 single family homes sold according to the Hudson Gateway MLS. The median sales price was 827,000 and the average days on market was 119 days. There were 15 condos sold in Bedford in 2014, with a median sales price of $300,000.
