Elmsford is a village in the middle of Westchester, within the Town of Greenburgh. There is no central downtown or train station in Elmsford, but you will find some stores and office parks. There are some big box stores in Elmsford, like Sam's Club, and the Greensburgh Movie Theater.
Elmsford is very convenient traffic-wise: Interstate 287 and Saw Mill River Parkway basically cut through the village, connecting Elmsford to the rest of the county and to the Tappen Zee Bridge. However, with all the traffic and offices in Elmsford, some people may find it congested.
Elmsford does not have a downtown or its own Metro North Station. The closest Metro North stations are White Plains and North White Plains, which are less than 10 minutes drive away. Tarrytown, which has a Metro North station along the Hudson Line, is also less then 10 minutes away.
I-287 cuts through the village, so driving is pretty convenient. Elmsford is approximately 26 miles North of New York City, or a 35-minute drive if there is no traffic.
