The City of Rye is a beautiful town along the Long Island Sound. It is West of the Town of Rye, which is a separate municipality which includes the villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester.

Rye is an upper class suburban community that has retained a tranquil village and many historic landmarks. There is a charming business area downtown with boutiques and restaurant row, close to the Metro North station. One third of the city's working residents commute to work in New York City.

Rye has 14 miles of coastline, and the beach is within walking distance to some of the neighborhoods. Of course, the most famous landmark in Rye would be the Rye Playland. It is one of America's oldest amusement parks and a historical landmark. It is currently run by the Westchester County.

Besides the beach and Playland, lots of other recreation activities are offered. Boating is a popular pastime and you will find several marinas along the shore. There is the Rye Golf Club, Rye Arts Center, Rye Nature Center, etc.

Rye Commute

Rye is located approximately 27 miles away from midtown Manhattan. There is a Metro North station in the city, and you can catch the train and arrive at Grand Central Station in around 45 minutes.

Rye has convenient access to interstate 95 and 287. Driving to Manhattan without traffic takes approximately 40 minutes, while Greenwich CT is a 10 minute drive away.

Rye Schools

Students in the city attend the Rye City or the Rye Neck School District. For private education, there is the Rye Country Day School.
