Ardsley is one of the river towns in Southern Westchester along the other river towns: Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, and Irvington, although it is not actually on the river. There is a downtown shopping district in Ardsley, but the area is quite small and looks more like a collection of strip malls compared to the downtown of other river towns.
What attracts people to Ardsley is its excellent school system, its central location to Manhattan and nearby villages, and its extensive parks and recreation offerings. There is a community center on Center Street that hosts a range of activities for youth and seniors.
There are two large village parks: the Pascone Park and the McDowell Park. They offer a skate park, lighted tennis courts, sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas. There are annual events that bring together the community, including a Halloween parade, a holiday tree lighting, an annual park day, tennis tournament, 5-K run, etc.
Ardsley does not have its own Metro North station. The closest stations will be the Ardsley-on-Hudson (which is not in the village of Ardsley) and the Dobbs Ferry station on the Hudson Line, or Hartsdale station on the Harlem Line. The ride from any of those stations to Grand Central Station is less than 40 minutes during peak time.
Driving from Ardsley to midtown is quite convenient, since Ardsley is right at Saw Mill River Parkway and I-87. The distance to midtown is 22 miles, and the distance to White Plains is 8 miles.
Most of the students in the village attend schools at the Ardsley Union Free School District. The school district is rather small, and has an excellent reputation. Click here for more information about the Ardsley Union Free School District, and more information about all Westchester school districts.
Around 80% of the housing in Ardsley are detached single family homes. Approximately 82.7% of the homes in Hastings are owner-occupied, and 17.3% are being rented. The zip code in Ardsley is 10502.
In 2014, there were 60 single family homes sold according to the Hudson Gateway MLS. The median sales price was $696,500 and the average days on market was 149 days.
