Armonk is a hamlet located in the town of North Castle in Westchester County, New York. Located 35 miles North of New York City, it borders Chappaqua NY and Greenwich Connecticut. The town of North Castle also includes the hamlets of Banksville and North White Plains.

Armonk, which occupies 2/3 of the town, is famed for being the global headquarters of IBM and MBIA, the nation's largest bond insurer. The large employers in town help offset the property tax burden of the homeowners. Banksville lies along the border of Bedford NY and Greenwich CT, and is known for its bucolic settings. 

There are several blocks of small business district of local shops and restaurants in Armonk. According to the town website, the town has a total of 13 parks and playgrounds. The North Castle Community Park is 23 acres, and have sports fields, tennis courts, a track, playground and picnic area. The Wampus Brook Park is also very popular. It has a beautiful pond with a gazebo, where you can go fishing and bowling. 

Other entertainment options in town include the Armonk Indoor Sports Center, at the Armonk Community Park, which runs leagues and lessons for all ages. There are also several well equipped gyms in town for people to work out.

Around Armonk, many of the homes are large, on 2+ acre lots. The extra space is attractive to many families who may have lived in Southern Westchester otherwise. 

Armonk Commute

Travelling to Manhattan, residents can take the Metro North train from the North White Plains train station. The express train takes only 35 minutes. Driving would take around 50 minutes without traffic. For more information you can visit our commute info page.

The Westchester Airport is only 10 minutes away by car, in White Plains. It is a domestic airport that provides many connecting flights to major cities in the country.

Armonk Schools

Many people choose to live in Armonk because of the public school district, Byram Hills. The school system is highly regarded. In 2012-13, the median SAT score for the high school was 1832, which was among the highest in the county and New York State. 99% of the graduation class had plans to attend a 4-year college.

Armonk Real Estate

84.8% of the homes in the town of North Castle are detached single family homes. Many young families started moving to the town in the 1990s, which led to a building boom, where many larger and higher end homes were built. 12.1% of all the homes were built between 1990-2000, and 9.1% were built after 2000.

87.4% of all the homes are owner occupied, and 12.6% are being rented.

Due to all the large and luxury homes, Armonk has a reputation of being an expensive town to live in. In 2014, there were 124 single family homes sold. The median sales price was $986,000 and was on the market for an average of 138 days.
