Edgemont is not a town or a village, but basically just a community within the Town of Greenburgh in Southern Westchester. Characteristically, Edgemont is most similar to its neighbor, Scarsdale. Real estate is typically cheaper in Edgemont than Scarsdale, but Edgemont is still an expensive area.
Edgemont is perhaps best known for its renowned Edgemont School District. While Scarsdale schools are known for being excellent but high pressure, some parents are now choosing to live in Edgemont instead for the schools.
People live in Edgemont for its convenience to New York city and nearby shopping and entertainment amenities. Edgemont does not have a downtown, but is very close to the business district in Scarsdale and Hartsdale. Popular outdoor opportunities include the Greenburgh Town Park with 3 swimming pools and 19 tennis courts, biking or jogging along the South County Trailway, and many private golf and tennis clubs nearby.
There are two Metro North Stations on the Harlem Line close to Edgemont: Hartsdale and Scarsdale. The fastest train takes 32 minutes to go to Grand Central from the Hartsdale stop. Some homes in Edgemont are walkable to the Scarsdale train station.
Driving distance to Grand Central Station is around 23 miles. White Plains is around 5 miles North of Edgemont.
Students attend the Edgemont School District, which is highly regarded. The school district is consistently ranked nationally, and was ranked #1 by the education review site Niche for the school year 2014-2015.
