Hastings-on-Hudson is the Southern most of the river towns, located just a 30-minute drive away from New York City. Unsurprisingly, the village lies along the Hudson River, where you can get a stunning view of the Palisades, the Manhattan skyline, and the Tappan Zee and George Washington Bridge.
Nowadays, the village has its quaint downtown with shops and restaurants. Like other river towns, the streets are pretty hilly, and it may be harder to find a house on a level lot. Most of the homes are classic Victorians, tudors, and colonials. Historically, there have been distinguished artists, writers, and scholars who lived in Hastings. The village maintains an artsy vibe, and has several art galleries.
The MacEachron Waterfront Park and Kinnally Cove offers picnic and playground facilities, and a launch for kayaking.
Over 100 years ago, the Hastings-on-Hudson riverfront was actually an industrial center. The factories have been shut down for more than 50 years, but unfortunately the environmental cleanup work is still going on.
Hastings is located just North of Yonkers, and just 20 miles North of midtown Manhattan. There is a Metro North station downtown along the Hudson Line, and at peak time the train ride is only 30 minutes.
Most of the students in the village attend schools at the Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District. Click here for more information about the Hastings-on-Hudson School District, and more information about all Westchester school districts.
About 60% of the housing in Hastings-on-Hudson are single family homes. Other than single family homes, you will also find some condos and apartments in the village.
Approximately 70.5% of the homes in Hastings are owner-occupied, and 29.5% are being rented. The zip code in Hastings-on-Hudson is 10706.
In 2014, there were 65 single family homes sold according to the Hudson Gateway MLS. The median sales price was 720,000 and the average days on market was 88 days. There were also 30 condos sold for a median of $291,250, and 15 coops sold with a median of $169,900.
