The City of Peekskill is located in Northwestern Westchester, bordering the Hudson River. During the 19th century, it was a manufacturing hub, producing stoves, plows, hats, etc. The factories started closing around the 1950s, and by the early 1990s, the population was dwindling, with a half vacant downtown.
That was when the city decided to implement revitalization programs. An Artists' District was developed to attract artists priced out in New York City. There are now affordable artist/live work lofts converted from old manufacturing buildings. and a Business Improvement District was developed.
Nowadays, Peekskill has attracted new galleries, boutique shops, restaurants, and businesses into its downtown. The diverse selection of dining and nightlife, and the Paramount Center for the Arts, attract local and nearby town residents to go out in Peekskill. You will find former factories converted into artists lofts and condos.
The Metro North service from the Peekskill station takes around 65 minutes to Grand Central Station. Peekskill is around 41 miles North of Midtown Manhattan. The Bear Mountain Bridge is 5 miles North of Peekskill, which provides access across the Hudson River to Orange County.

Most of the students attend the Peekskill School District. Part of the city is districted for the Hendrick Hudson School District.
