The Village of Brewster is located inside the town of Southeast, and most people refer to the general Southeast Town area as Brewster. The historic village of Brewster is walkable, with a several stores and restaurants, the town library, grocery stores, and Metro North station with train service to Grand Central Station, all located on Main Street.
All of the condo and townhouse developments in Brewster are in a suburban setting outside of the village. People are attracted to living in Brewster for its quiet and peaceful setting, yet with a convenient commute to NYC, Danbury CT and Westchester either by driving or by train.
Like the rest of Putnam County, lots of outdoor opportunities are in the town of Southeast. You will see many beautiful lakes and reservoirs along your daily drives through town along with mountain views. The Putnam Trailway is a scenic paved bike/pedestrian path where you can travel on foot or on bike from Brewster to Carmel, and connects to Westchester (thru the North County Trailway) and the Harlem Rail Trail (towards Dutchess County).
There are several shopping centers in Brewster. Danbury CT is only 10 miles away, which offers plenty of stores and restaurants, and chain stores like Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Walmart.
Brewster is about an hour and 15 minutes North of New York City, 30 minutes North of White Plains, 10 minutes from Connecticut and the City of Danbury. There are access from the town to I-84 and I-684. Route 6, 22, and 202 will lead you to Carmel and Mahopac.
The Brewster Metro North station is along the Harlem Line in the village of Brewster. A ride during normal weekday hours is around 80 minutes, and the trains usually run every half hour. There is also the Southeast train station, just one stop North of Brewster station.
